Research

I have published in three areas. In economics, my work includes an empirical analysis of sunset legislation, a benefit-cost analysis of a local DNA database, a study of how private security confounds estimates of public police and crime, working papers on Medicaid expansion and Housing First, and policy commentary for the Cicero Institute on fiscal transparency, bureaucracy, replication, and government modernization. In AI, I have written on how autonomous agents follow informal, open-textured rules, on mood and force in defeasible argument, on intention and shared action in human–AI teams, and on AI in state government. In philosophy, I have written a book on Leibniz's metaphysics and theology in 1686, along with papers on Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, Leibniz's translation of the Phaedo, Genesis Rabbah as scripture, servant leadership, and Tony Kushner's Angels in America.
